So, as you may know, I do rescue work, but I mainly pick up dogs..
Well, a week or two ago, we were at a nearby popular dump-site looking for three Spaniel puppies near a river of Lake Houston. It's not exactly the most lovely of places, there's carcasses here and there, of both domestic and wild animals, and not to mention the trash. And people see fit to dump animals there. My mom and I were down by the water looking for these three puppies, when, on the way back, I heard a high pitched noise and used my own little squeaks and mewls when I realized it was a cat meow. Low and behold there was a tiny orange kitten sitting atop a dumped, rotting, hollowed out cheap plastic-y boat, screaming at me. So I picked him up without question.
Seeing as how we only had dog food, because we were not expecting to pick up any felines, we gave him a bit of canned dog food and he gobbled it up. It was while he was quiet and eating, I noticed the mewling continued. Two more kittens hid inside the boat, at the head of the boat, under where seats should have been. I was not able to get them then, we tried for about an hour, and then went off with the orange one to continue our search for the puppies.
The puppies were actually found under an overpass a few miles away, which is where we were told to look after looking at this first dump-site. We caught them fairly easy, as they were friendly, but scared. They had belonged to someone, it was obvious by the red collar on the small black one. And whoever had them had either beaten them, or scared them beyond reason, because whenever we would reach out to touch them, they would flinch away and act as if they had been hit.
Anyway, on with the kittens. Mom and I went home with our four new rescues, got them settled in with some nice food, warm beds, and water. We ate ourselves, only to go back out nearly two hours later for the last two kittens, leaving the one we had already rescued with their supposed father, out temporary barn cat, who we had rescued a few weeks before. (He is a big orange tabby who is going home with my sister soon ^-^ ) The kitten we had rescued already is orange just like him, has the same personality, and we rescued them within a few feet of each other, just on separate dates. And Oliver, the older male, loves the kittens like no tomorrow :3 He grooms them and plays with them, and herds them around the barn when they aren't in their crates.
When we returned, the two remaining kittens were on top of the boat as their little orange sibling had been, and were crying and hollering for him. They saw us and retreated back into hiding. After about another hour, hour and a half of tearing apart the boat, we finally caught them, and they weren't near as happy as the orange one was. We took them home, and reunited them with their brother, and gave them their own separate crate with enough room to run around and play in.
Now, on with the other point of this journal. I am looking to re-home them. They are about a month old, I think, with no shots, they aren't fixed, but they are clean, and friendly. Playful little buggers. I don't want to take them to a shelter, because everywhere around here is full or puts their animals on a kill list after a short stay. I do not want to put them with a rescue right now, because again, they are full. So please, if you want a kitty, let me know! I live in Texas, so I don't know how out of state parents would work.
There are two females and one male.
Male is a little orange tabby with bright blue eyes, he's the friendliest of the bunch.
One female is a little white girl with calico spots, and greenish blue eyes. She's the cutest to me. :3 She's also a little shy, she was the hardest to get to purr. v-v
And the other female is a grey tabby with white feet, white underbelly, and blue eyes. She was the most fierce of the three. She likes to cling to my shirt when I want to put her down. I will post a picture of them later, so check out my gallery soon!
They will be free, and if you're iffy about getting a free kitten with no shots and whatnot, there's plenty of free clinics, cheap clinics, and spay/neuter drives to take them to to get them up to date. I would do it myself, but we are stretched on money with out own dogs and cats, which is why I want to re-home these darlin's. Note me if you know of anyone, or would like to meet them. :3
